Franz Marc
Franz Marc (1880–1916) was a pioneering German painter and printmaker, renowned for his role in the Expressionist movement and his vivid depictions of animals. Born in Munich, Marc co-founded the influential Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) group, which sought to explore spirituality and emotion through art. He developed a unique visual language characterized by bold colors, simplified forms, and symbolic imagery, particularly in his portrayals of animals. Marc's untimely death during World War I cut short his prolific career, but his legacy endures as a leading figure of German Expressionism, inspiring generations of artists with his innovative style and philosophical approach to art.
